For the first time ever in the state of Rajasthan, physically and mentally challenged students are going to appear in the class X board examinations. We are so proud to say that these students are from Umang. A big thank you to our donors who have allowed us to continue working with Umang. This is a testament to the hard work of the students and teachers at Umang and to your generosity.

We are excited to announce the first two recipients of the awards for the girls scholarship initiative that Anand Charity is funding in partnership with the Nanubhai Educational Foundation. Ms. Mohini Mahida and Ms. Urvashi Chaudhari are both pursuing higher education at colleges after passing the HSC (class XII) examination. Watch this space for more details about the girls and their reaction on getting the scholarships.

A volunteer at Umang, Pallavi Kulhrestha, who took 6 months off from her work to help out at Umang, has created a couple of videos showcasing life at Umang. We are pleased to announce our newest project, Project WHY, based in New Delhi. Anand Charity will assist ProjectWHY in kick starting a new pilot program that is targeted at improving the education and development of about 250 children from grades 2 through 5. As we draw towards the end of a phenomenal effort, we wish to look back and acknowledge the force behind this campaign. The “Change for $5” has brought more than a hundred donors and supporters into our mission and over $7,000 in resources to help our numerous projects in India. Needless to say, all our donors and supporters are the benevolent force behind this, and we wish to thank you again for believing in us, and helping us achieve such a wonderful goal.

The vocational training unit at Umang is continuing to make great progress. The Birla Institute of Technology (BITS), Pilani invited Umang to set up a stall during their 2009 annual cultural festival 'Oasis' attended by 10,000 to 15,000 students from all over India. Umang put up a stall from 25th October to 30th October to exhibit and sell products made by students of their Work Training Unit. They had a great response with sales amounting to approximately Rs. 25,000. For their phenomenal work, Umang has been invited by BITS for next year's Oasis as well.
