Project Oorani Updates
Project Oorani is Anand Charity’s first project in Andhra Pradesh. With the help of Dhan Foundation, we are building an oorani (water pond) in the village of Borajguda. This project was originally due to be completed in December 2008. However, several hurdles have caused unfortunate delays to this project. Originally, the digging of the Oorani was supposed to be manual. However, after the digging started, the villagers hit hard rocks and could not continue further without the use of heavy machinery. Due to the remoteness of the village, it took a while to convince companies to take up work in the village. Now, the blasting is done and the villagers are removing the rocks from the site manually. The manual removal of the rocks is tedious and has delayed the project.

We are constantly monitoring the project with the Dhan Foundation. They have been implementing traditional water bodies in South India for the past decade and we trust their commitment and experience. Given that all the work needs to be completed before the monsoon season because the villagers get busy with agricultural work, the completion date for the project will have to be pushed into 2010. Anand Charity is committed to this project and we will ensure that the project is completed.
